Limestone Tiles & Paving Brisbane

Limestone sits in a unique position in the natural stone family — more refined than travertine, warmer and more characterful than marble. Its subtle organic inclusions of shells and ancient marine life give every piece a depth that manufactured stone simply cannot replicate. An increasingly popular choice for pool surrounds, bathrooms, feature walls and outdoor entertaining areas across South East Queensland.

Limestone is the stone we see specified most often by designers who want something a step more refined than travertine but with more warmth and character than marble. The organic inclusions — the shell fragments, the ancient marine fossils — make every piece genuinely unique.

No two limestone tiles are the same, which is exactly what designers and homeowners who are tired of manufactured products respond to. We hand select our limestone at the source and stock only the finest grades.

Limestone — Buying Guide

Both limestone and travertine are sedimentary stones formed from calcium carbonate, but they form in different environments and have distinct characteristics. Travertine forms near hot springs and has a naturally porous, pitted structure with warm ochre and cream tones. Limestone forms on the sea floor from accumulated marine sediment — shells, coral and organic matter compressed over millions of years. Limestone tends to be denser and less porous than travertine, with a more refined surface texture and a colour range that moves from pale creams through to warm greys. Limestone’s organic inclusions give it a subtle character that travertine doesn’t have.

Yes — limestone is an excellent pool surround stone for Queensland conditions. Like travertine, it stays relatively cool underfoot in summer sun and suits the Mediterranean and coastal aesthetic that defines most South East Queensland pool design. Limestone is denser than travertine which means it is slightly more resistant to moisture penetration, but it still requires quality sealing for pool surround applications. Our Classic Linen and Silver limestone ranges are the most specified for Queensland pool surrounds.

Yes — all natural limestone should be sealed with a penetrating impregnator sealer before use. Limestone is porous and susceptible to staining from acidic substances, organic matter and pool chemicals if left unsealed. For pool surrounds and outdoor applications, use a salt and moisture protection sealer. Reseal every 2 to 5 years depending on exposure and traffic. We stock the right sealers for every limestone product in our range.

Yes — honed limestone is an excellent internal floor tile. Its warm, refined appearance suits bathrooms, living areas and kitchens where a natural stone look is desired. For high traffic internal areas, a honed and filled limestone with consistent surface density is the right specification. Limestone is softer than granite but harder than travertine — suitable for most residential internal floor applications with correct sealing and maintenance.
