From Our Team to Your Project
Marble is a different conversation to most of the stone we sell — it’s chosen for one reason, and that’s luxury. Where travertine and limestone are the practical, versatile workhorses of natural stone, marble is the statement piece.
It’s softer and more porous than granite or basalt, which means it needs proper sealing and a bit more care — but the result is a depth of veining and lustre that no other stone or manufactured product can replicate.
We hand select our marble at the source and our team can talk you through which veining pattern, colour and finish suits your specific project.
Marble — Buying Guide
Marble can be used outdoors but requires careful consideration. It is more porous and softer than granite, making it more susceptible to etching from acidic substances, scratching and staining. For Queensland’s intense UV and subtropical rainfall, marble is best suited to covered outdoor areas, feature walls and applications away from constant water exposure such as pool surrounds. For high traffic or pool surround applications, travertine or granite will outperform marble. Our team can advise on the right application for marble in your specific project.
Yes — marble is porous and must be sealed with a penetrating impregnator sealer before use, and resealed periodically depending on application and traffic. Marble is also sensitive to acidic substances — lemon juice, wine and some cleaning products can etch the surface even when sealed. For kitchen benchtops and high-use areas, we recommend discussing maintenance requirements with our team before committing to marble.
Both are natural stones formed from limestone, but they form differently. Travertine forms near hot springs with a naturally porous, pitted structure. Marble forms under intense heat and pressure deep within the earth, resulting in a denser stone with distinctive crystalline veining. Marble has a more luxurious, polished appearance and is generally more expensive. Travertine is more versatile for high traffic outdoor applications. Both require sealing, but marble is generally more sensitive to staining and etching.
French pattern (Versailles pattern) is a tile layout using four different rectangular tile sizes laid in a repeating sequence that creates a sophisticated, non-uniform appearance. It is a popular choice for large format marble flooring where a refined, structured look is desired without the uniformity of standard square tiles. We supply French pattern marble pre-cut to the correct sizes and ratios for accurate laying.
