Travertine — Buying Guide
Travertine is graded based on consistency, hole-filling and surface finish. Select grade (sometimes called Premium or AAA grade) has minimal natural holes, consistent colour and a clean, refined appearance — the most popular choice for pool surrounds and contemporary applications. Standard or Commercial grade has more natural variation and unfilled holes — popular for a more rustic, characterful look. Antique grade has a tumbled, aged finish with significant texture and colour variation — chosen specifically for Mediterranean and traditional style projects.
Yes — this is one of travertine’s defining advantages for Queensland conditions. Travertine has naturally low thermal conductivity, meaning it absorbs and releases heat slowly compared to porcelain, concrete or darker stones. Yes — travertine is a porous stone and should always be sealed with a penetrating impregnator sealer, both for internal and external applications.
