Electric Fireplaces Brisbane
From Our Team to Your Project
Electric fireplaces have quietly become the fastest-moving category in the industry — and 2026 is the year the technology finally caught up with the marketing. If you haven’t looked at electric since the last time you built or renovated, the top of the market has changed completely. Kalfire’s 3D holographic range and Escea’s Flame-Map LE Series produce flame effects that genuinely fool people.
The real question isn’t “electric or not” — it’s what job the fireplace has to do. Brisbane apartment with no external wall? Electric is the only real fireplace option. New build where the flue path won’t work? Electric solves the design problem in a single component. Rental where you can’t run gas or cut a flue? Electric turns “not possible” into a working feature. Want to mount a TV directly above with no clearance issues? Electric is the only fireplace type that allows it.
Choosing between the brands comes down to flame quality, size, features and budget. Kalfire and Escea sit at the top for realism. Charlton & Jenrick, Rinnai, Visionline, Planika and Kalora each earn their place for different reasons. Our team’s job is to ask the right questions, walk you through the working displays at our Hamilton showroom, and let the flame do the rest.
Electric Fireplaces — Buying Guide
Electric fireplaces are the simplest fireplace type to install — most only need a standard 240V power point. Wall mounted models need a bracket fixed to the wall. Inbuilt models need a framed recess built into a wall — straightforward carpentry any builder can handle. Larger models with higher heat output (3kW+) may need a dedicated circuit — we’ll flag this at quote stage. No gas connection, no flue penetration, no council approval and no licensed trades required. For apartments, high-rises, rentals and homes where flue installation isn’t practical, electric is the only real fireplace option.
The premium end of the market has come an enormous distance. Kalfire’s 3D holographic technology and Escea’s Flame-Map holographic system both project true flame imagery onto physical logs or ember beds, producing depth, movement and randomness that fool people at first look. Mid-tier brands — Rinnai, Charlton & Jenrick, Visionline — use advanced LED and mirror technology that reads convincingly at conversational distance. Entry-level electric fireplaces still look like what they are. The only honest way to judge realism is a working display at our Hamilton showroom — brochures and photos always look better than the reality.
For Brisbane’s mild winters, yes — electric fireplaces provide sufficient supplementary warmth for most living spaces. Most models produce between 1.5kW and 3kW of heat output, enough to take the chill off a room on a Brisbane winter evening. For genuine primary heating of large open-plan spaces or in Queensland hinterland homes with colder winters, gas or wood fireplaces produce significantly more output (8kW+). For apartments, small-to-medium living areas, and homes where ambience with practical supplementary warmth is the goal, electric is genuinely capable.
Depends on the model’s heat output and your electricity tariff — roughly $0.30 to $0.80 per hour running at full heat. Every electric fireplace we stock lets you run the flame effect without the heater on, which typically costs cents per hour — so ambience on a mild evening is virtually free. Compared to gas, per-kW running costs are slightly higher, but electric has zero installation cost, zero flue cost, zero gas connection cost, and no annual servicing. Across the full lifetime of the fireplace, electric is often the cheaper option overall — especially in apartments where the alternative isn’t a cheaper fireplace but no fireplace at all.
Yes — and this is one of the practical advantages electric holds over gas and wood. There’s no radiant heat rising from an electric fireplace to worry about, no minimum TV-to-fire clearance, and the top surface stays cool. A TV can sit directly above with no thermal issue. Escea’s LE Series and Kalfire’s holographic range are Zero Clearance rated, meaning no non-combustible surround is required and the TV can go essentially wherever the joinery calls for it.
Only specific outdoor-rated models. Planika’s electric range includes IP-rated options designed for covered outdoor entertaining areas — alfresco spaces, patio zones, and semi-exposed positions. Standard indoor electric fireplaces should never be used outdoors or in bathrooms — moisture will destroy the electronics. If the outdoor space is fully exposed to weather, gas is generally the better answer. For a covered outdoor area with a genuine outdoor rating requirement, we’ll steer you to the right model.
Three different install types for three different situations. Wall mounted fires attach to any wall like a large flat-screen TV — cheapest to install, best for apartments and rentals where you don’t want to open up the wall. Inbuilt fires drop into a framed recess in the wall for a flush architectural finish — the premium look for new builds and renovations, and the format most premium brands (Kalfire, Escea LE, Rinnai) are built around. Freestanding fires stand on the floor like a traditional wood heater — Escea’s LEFS Series and select Kalora and Rinnai models cover this format, ideal for rentals and rooms where a wall install isn’t possible.
Yes — they’re the safest fireplace type on the market. There’s no combustion, no live flame, no gas, and no hot glass front. The projected flame effect looks real but produces zero heat itself — heat comes from a separate electric heating element usually vented at a controlled angle away from where anyone would touch. For homes with young children, pets, or elderly family members where the safety of a real flame is a genuine concern, electric solves the problem completely without giving up the visual warmth of a fireplace in the room.
