For driveways use a sealer with good oil and stain resistance. For pool surrounds and coastal properties use a salt protection sealer. Weed growth between cobblestones is controlled by the jointing material used during installation. Polymeric sand — a sand and polymer blend that sets hard when wet — is the most effective jointing product for cobblestone areas. It resists weed germination and ant nesting significantly better than plain sand. Correct installation with a compacted base and consistent joint width also makes a significant difference to long-term weed control.

Measure the total area in square metres — length multiplied by width. For irregular-shaped areas, break the space into sections and add them together. Add 10% for cuts and wastage on standard areas, and 15% for areas with lots of curves or complex shapes. Limestone crazy paving is a similar choice with a slightly more refined look. For contemporary pools, bluestone and darker mixed stone crazy paving in charcoal tones work well.
